GOAQS: An international collaboration to improve air quality

Air quality is a global challenge that requires collaborative solutions, and the Global Open Air Quality Standards (GOAQS, https://goaqs.org/) initiative, led by expert Sotirios Papathanasiou, represents an international effort that is making a difference. This initiative brings together experts from around the world with a common goal: to improve air quality monitoring through the use of accessible technologies and low-cost sensors.

The strength of GOAQS lies in its international committee, composed of scientists, engineers, and leaders in the field of air quality, who bring their knowledge and experience to develop solutions that benefit both industrialized countries and developing regions. This interdisciplinary team works together to drive technological innovation and ensure that air quality measurements are accurate and available to all communities, regardless of location or resources.

Key members of GOAQS include internationally renowned researchers such as Dr. Mazen Issa Haddad, a specialist in air quality and environmental health; Dr. John Lin, an expert in atmospheric modeling; and Dr. Sergio Montenegro, with extensive experience in evaluating public policies and environmental regulations. Joining them is Dr. Luis Alonso Díaz Robles, CEO of PARTICULAS SpA, who contributes his vast experience in air quality monitoring, modeling, and forecasting, both in Chile and internationally. His role in GOAQS reinforces the initiative’s commitment to implementing effective solutions for environmental management and the well-being of communities affected by air pollution.

The initiative also promotes cooperation between universities, governments, and non-governmental organizations, creating a global network for information exchange. This collaboration fosters the development of new technologies that not only improve monitoring but also pave the way for practical solutions to mitigate the impacts of air pollution.

GOAQS represents an example of how science and technology can come together to address global issues like air pollution. Thanks to the participation of international experts, the initiative is making significant progress toward creating accessible and reliable tools that help communities protect their health and the environment.

This joint effort not only focuses on technological improvement but also on the training and education of communities, ensuring that the benefits of these advancements reach everyone. In a world where air pollution affects millions of people, initiatives like GOAQS are essential for moving toward a cleaner and healthier future.
